Mitchell announces $102 Million in EPA, Interior stimulus funds for Arizona

U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell today announced that an additional $102 million in stimulus funding would be coming directly to Arizona to support water infrastructure and national park system projects.

"This funding will create jobs here at home while helping to protect our drinking water, prevent water pollution and preserve our national parks," Mitchell said. "In Arizona, we know how important it is to protect a clean, safe supply of drinking water and our national parks contain some of our most precious resources."

The funding includes $82,077,000 to be distributed by the EPA to support Water Quality Management Planning (WQMP), the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, and the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. These programs would help to solve problems affecting Arizona's water supply, including water pollution, wastewater treatment, and drinking water systems. More information on these programs is available at http://www.epa.gov.

An additional $20,417,000 will be distributed from the Department of Interior to fund 52 projects across the state. For a full list of projects, visit http://recovery.doi.gov/nps/.

The grants were approved as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the stimulus bill, which Mitchell voted for. It passed the House and was signed into law by President Obama in February.
